To assist Medical Examiners and Coroners Offices during the investigation of all sudden pediatric deaths, we created the brochure “Help for Families When an Infant or Young Child Dies”.

The brochure outlines for families in a clear manner:

The brochure is intended to be provided to the next of kin by the investigator during the scene investigation and can be used for all manners of sudden pediatric deaths.

Although the brochure was created for widespread use, there may be information included that you would like changed to better reflect your local jurisdiction. We have a ME/C version, an ME only version and a Coroner only version.

The brochure is designed to be printed on legal size paper. The SUDC Program provides these brochures at no cost, but as a service to help ME/C offices communicate effectively and sympathetically to those in need.

The SUDC Program
An answer when there’s no explanation.

Families who are coping with a sudden unexplained death of a family member often have anxiety about their family’s health and the risk of re-occurrence. 

The SUDC Program and the SUDC research team created Family Medical Testing Recommendations. Families can take to this to their doctor to help guide discussions on what is appropriate for their given family. 

Additionally, there are clinics available that will evaluate families with a history of sudden unexplained death.
